Java certification, as an additional form of formal confirmation of knowledge and skills, represents a competitive advantage, both for individual and for the company. However, it can also represent a loss of valuable time and non-negligible financial cost. In this session we will try to provide answers to various questions about the certification, explain typical certification path, and explain the advantages and differences of certain certificates. We will try to help with instructions and tips about the easiest way to approach certification and how to take and renew certificates. Finally, we will present how to get to the highest levels of certification and explain what could be the benefit in your professional life, and whether the effort is worth it.

About speaker
Branko Mihaljević, author
Branko Mihaljević is IT educator, consultant, manager, and entrepreneur. After 12 years of work at FER, where he received MSc, DSM, and PhD, and 7 years as a co-owner of Java development company, he is currently lecturer at RIT Croatia and leading his own IT company. He deals with Java since 1996 and with Java EE platform since 2000. He is author of many scientific and professional papers, magazine articles, and educational materials, and he participates in numerous conferences. He gained his work experience as an IT consultant, project manager, development leader, software architect, and researcher on various IT projects in financial, telecom, public health and satellite systems sector. For the last three and half years he is the president of Croatian Java User Association (HUJAK).
Tihomir Smuđ, coauthor
Tihomir Smuđ is the owner of S2 informacijski sustavi which core business is Java outsourcing. He owns Java certificates: Oracle Certified Master, Java EE 5 Enterprise Architect, and Sun Certified Java Programmer. After finishing FOI in his 13-year long work experience he worked as Java programmer, team leader and software architect in cooperation with many relevant Croatian IT firms for customers and project of various sizes (Ministry of justice, Ministry of the interior, Ministry of finance, T-com, T-mobile, Zagreb holding). Last 3 years as owner of S2 he is present on the international IT scene working for customers from all over the world.
Aleksander Radovan, coauthor
Aleksander Radovan, as a graduate computer engineer, is currently completing his PhD at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing. He has more than 11 years of experience with Java and he is currently employed as Java Team Lead at KING ICT, as well as working as Senior Lecturer at several university colleges on a number of programming courses related to Java and related technologies. He is author of a number of teaching materials, curricula courses related to programming in Java, as well as conference papers. Currently, he is also the president of the Committee for Education of Croatian Java User Association (HUJAK).
