In this community keynote brought to you by HUJAK, we present the current state of the tech ecosystem based on Java and related technologies as well as its bright future. This includes the foundation of the platform and virtual machine, features of Java and other programming languages based on it, an enormous number of frameworks, libraries, tools, and services, and most important – the community and people behind it all. For more than a quarter of the century, Java has been considered one of the best programming languages and the most widespread software development platform in the world. Therefore, we will take you on a journey through the most interesting features of the programming language and prospective new projects that are a part of it. We will mention many projects like Loom, Graal, Valhalla, Panama, and Amber, and new features such as Switch Expressions, Text Blocks, Pattern Matching, Records, Foreign Function and Memory API, Vector API, and Sealed Classes. We also intend to address the current state of software development and present the global developers' opinions as well as discuss challenges related to remote work, education, and employment. About speaker
Branko Mihaljević, author
Branko Mihaljević is an educator, consultant, manager, and entrepreneur, dealing with Java since 1996. After 12 years of teaching at UNIZG FER, where he received dipl. ing. (MS), DSM, mr. sc., and dr. sc. (PhD), a few years at Algebra and VERN' colleges, as well as 7 years as a co-owner and CTO of a development company, he is for the last 7 years a College Professor and Research Assistant at RIT Croatia, one of the global locations of Rochester Institute of Technology, and leading his software consulting company. He gained experience as a consultant, software architect, project manager, development lead, and researcher on various projects in the financial, telecom, traffic, public health, and satellite systems sectors. He is the author of more than a hundred scientific and professional papers, conference presentations, and popular Java-related articles. He collaborated on many research and professional projects, as well as delivered various university courses and professional workshops, and authored many educational materials. He is the president of the Croatian Java User Association (HUJAK).
